Quarantine School is NOT Homeschool!

Quarantine is not over, but “homeschool” is for now. Let all the parents collectively rejoice! We officially made it through one of the craziest school years any of us has ever known.

The COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench in plans for travel, weddings, graduations, and more.  But arguably the most widespread change came in the form of schools everywhere being closed for the rest of the year – unexpectedly thrusting millions of families into reluctant homeschooling.

But can I tell you a secret?  Quarantine school is NOT really homeschool!

There, I said it! Take it from a seasoned homeschool mom – homeschool is a LOT of things, most of which were completely thrown aside by a global pandemic.  And to make things even more tricky, many of us are having to decide whether to send our kids back to school in the fall or if we are going to dive into homeschool.

I know the thought of homeschool is scary to so many people, especially given the abrupt way that the traditional school year ended.

But this – y’all, this was not homeschool. It was PANDEMIC school.  And if you did nothing besides just MAKE it through the school year, then you did just fine.

And now we get to really prepare for the school year to come. If you want to send your kiddos back to traditional school in the fall, then awesome!  But if you don’t, and are wondering about committing to homeschool in the fall, then I’m here to help you figure out just where to start.

So next up is a blog series completely dedicated to helping you get started on your homeschool journey.  So I want to know – what are your biggest questions about homeschool?  Leave them below and I will answer as many of them as I can in the next post in the series. Trust me – together, we can do this!

Do you have set “school hours?” If so, how did you decide what time to dedicate to school?
Also, are y’all apart of a co-op? How do you socialize with others throughout the week?

I’m considering it, but how on Earth do you manage homeschooling older kiddos and having a tiny baby! Ah!
