For this trip we were looking for a few things:

• Location must be within 4 hours of our home in Birmingham, AL
• Must have warm weather and beach/waterfront access
• Full of activities for kids of all ages (our four children range from toddler to teen –
  youngest is 4 and eldest is 15)
  

Pensacola, Florida checked every single one of those boxes. We have been to beaches all
throughout the Florida gulf Coast but have never actually visited Pensacola. So when Visit
Pensacola invited us to come explore their beautiful city, our family vote was a resounding YES!
We started planning our itinerary, packed up our car, and hit the road for a quick 3.5-
hour road trip to our destination.

Where to Stay

If you’re looking for the perfect resort hotel, the Holiday Inn Pensacola Beach has everything
you need! We loved how easy it was to just step outside and be right on the beautiful sugar-white
sands of the Gulf. It made our beach days so simple—no need to pack up the car. Just grab the
kids and head to the water! The resort even provides beach towels and complimentary iced
bottled waters on the pool deck near the beach access.

We stayed in the Family Suite, and it was perfect for our crew! The suite featured two private
balconies, giving us amazing views of the beach and bay and plenty of space to relax outdoors.
Inside, the kids loved the bunk beds, which made bedtime so much fun, while the sofa
bed provided extra sleeping space for our teenager. Having a kitchenette was a real bonus—it
made snack time and quick meals super convenient, especially with little ones! The Family
Suite also had an additional bedroom with 2 Queen beds that my husband and I shared.
Seriously, it was like this suite was made perfectly for us!

Outside of our incredible sleeping quarters, the resort pool was an absolute highlight. It was
fantastic – complete with over 200 feet of lazy river and a hot tub. The kids had a blast floating
around with the waterfalls, while we enjoyed relaxing in the hot tubs and in the hammocks
overlooking the beach. And the Dive-in movies? Such a fun way to end the evening! Watching a
movie while floating in the pool under the stars was a real treat for the whole family.

We love the beach, so we took advantage of every possible opportunity to just hang out and relax
in the sand and water. The beautiful beach was just steps away from the resort! And if you’ve
never been to the Florida Gulf Coast, you are in for a treat! It has some of the most beautiful
white sand beaches and clearest water you can find. Each day we rented a set of chairs
and umbrellas from Lazy Days Beach Rentals – this is a vacation perk we always splurge on
versus bringing our own chairs and umbrella from home. It’s nice to not have to do that set up on
our own and keeps us from bringing as much sand home with us when it is time to leave.
Plus, having on-site dining options like Riptides Sports Grill & Beachfront Tiki Bar was were
super convenient, plus kids under 12 eat FREE with the purchase of an adult meal!
This was such a family-friendly perk and, with 3 kids under 12, a definite win for us! There was
also an on-site ice cream shop. We truly could have spent the entire vacation relaxing at the
resort without ever leaving! It was the perfect mix of fun and relaxation for our family, and we
can’t wait to go back.

Must-See Activities for Families

Another highlight of our trip was a dolphin cruise with Jolly Sailing. While we were planning
this trip, we realized that despite our many years vacationing at the beach, the kids had never
been on a dolphin cruise. So, we were all buzzing with excitement as we set out on the water,
hoping to spot dolphins up close. And we weren’t disappointed! Seeing so many dolphins
swimming right alongside the boat was such an amazing experience for the whole family. The
kids were absolutely in awe.

But what really took the day to the next level was the unexpected treat of a Blue Angel flyover!
As we cruised along, we suddenly heard the roar of jets and looked up to see the iconic Blue
Angels soaring overhead. It was such a unique and unforgettable moment that we’ll be talking
about for years to come!

And I can’t compliment the Jolly Sailing staff enough for their attentiveness. Jonnica (our guide)
and Carson (our captain) were both incredible hosts. Jonnica took extra time and answered all of
our kids’ many questions. And Carson let the kids each take turns driving the boat and also
ringing the bell, which I’m pretty sure is a core memory now! Highly recommend Jolly Sailing
& Dolphin cruise on your next trip to Pensacola, Florida.

Our day at Laguna Adventure Park was packed with fun and thrills for the whole family! The
kids couldn’t wait to jump into all the activities, and we started off with zip-lining and the ropes
course, which was an absolute blast. Soaring above the park gave us amazing views and plenty
of adrenaline! After that, we hopped into the go-karts for some friendly competition—everyone
was laughing and having the best time.

For the younger ones, the splash pad was a big hit. Our 4- and 6-year-olds also had a blast on
the kiddie ropes course, which was the perfect size for them since they weren’t quite tall enough
for the full ropes course or ziplines. It was great that there was something specifically designed
for the little ones so they could join in on the fun too.

I really loved that Laguna Adventure Park caters so well to all ages. Whether you visit with
teenagers or little ones, there’s something for everyone. It makes it a great spot for families
looking for variety and non-stop fun. And while we didn’t get a chance to try the on-site
restaurant this time around, it’s on our list for our next visit!

Our visit to Bruce Beach was such a peaceful and meaningful experience. The history here is
powerful – once a shipyard and later a public pool and gathering place for African Americans
during segregation in the 1950s -1970s. I’m reminded of just how recent history that is – both of
my parents were alive during this time. It was interesting to walk the trails and read the signs that
share the area’s story.

With Phase 1 of the Bruce Beach Revitalization Project complete, it’s now a beautiful space with
restored shorelines, walking paths, picnic spots, and a learning garden. We spent a relaxing
morning here, taking in the views and appreciating the blend of history and nature. It’s definitely
a must-see in downtown Pensacola.

Where to Eat – Family-Friendly Dining in Pensacola

We had some incredible meals during our trip to Pensacola, and two spots really stood out for
our family. First, Whiskey Joe’s was a highlight with its laid-back, beachy vibe and wide range
of delicious options. Our server Kendall was fantastic and offered some great recommendations.
I had the blackened grouper sandwich which was so flavorful, while Phillip enjoyed fresh fish
and chips. The kids stuck with their favorites, and all ate burgers. It’s a great spot that
offers something for everyone, and the relaxed atmosphere (there was even a beachfront
playground and volleyball out back) made it perfect for unwinding after a busy day.

Another great dining experience was at The Garden at Palafox, a food hall in downtown
Pensacola. This place was ideal for our family because everyone got to pick exactly what they
were craving. I opted for a teriyaki short rib bowl, while Phillip had a poke bowl. The kids opted
for chicken tenders and fries, but we also saw ramen and boba options. The Garden’s variety
made it so easy for everyone to find something they liked, and the casual setting was perfect for
grabbing a bite after exploring downtown.

Whether you’re looking for a sit-down meal or a place where everyone can satisfy their
individual cravings, Whiskey Joe’s and The Garden at Palafox are both excellent, family-friendly
spots in Pensacola.

More Reasons to Visit Pensacola

Beyond the beautiful beaches and outdoor adventures, Pensacola offers plenty of activities and
attractions that make it a perfect destination for families. This fall, Pensacola is hosting several
exciting festivals that are great for all ages. The Pensacola Seafood Festival is a must-visit for

For the past 8 weeks, my six-, five-, and three-year-old kiddos have been taking swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School in Hoover, Alabama.  Goldfish Swim School is a nationwide swim school with a unique curriculum, programs from infant to 12 years old, state-of-the-art facilities, and more!

We spend a lot of time in the pool in the summer. Our neighborhood has a really awesome swimming pool and we are also members of our local YMCA which has both an indoor and outdoor pool. I primarily take the kids by myself, so it is really important to me that we build strong healthy, water habits. Our last few months at Goldfish Swim School – Hoover have been helpful and fun for our family!

My boys aren’t new to swim lessons. They took private lessons for several months in 2021, but in 2022, our 5-year-old (then 4) fractured his leg. He was in a cast that couldn’t get wet so we didn’t take any lessons at all last summer. But our sweet baby girl (3) had never had a swim lesson before! To top it off, she absolutely does not like to get water in her face or go into water at all without someone holding onto her. This has worked out well for us as far as water safety goes, but I knew going into swim lessons that this would be an obstacle that she would have to overcome.

FACILITIES AND FIRST IMPRESSION

Our first impression of Goldfish Swim School – Hoover was that it was very updated and truly looked like a place that caters to kids. It gives the vibe of a tropical beach club mixed with a kid-focused fitness center. When you enroll, you get a reusable tote with a t-shirt for each child, some Goldfish crackers, and other goodies. 

Goldfish Swim School has amenities much like any other upscale fitness center, but everything is set up to perfectly cater to kids! The facility is only a year old and everything is very new and updated. There is a large waiting area with seating for the parents and children.  They also have tables with coloring sheets and crayons where the kids get to hang out while they wait for lessons to start.  There is also a stocked fish tank that my kids immediately gravitated towards.  

The pool is always heated to 90 degrees, so it encourages families to continue with lessons year-round. I think that is so important because consistency is so important when it comes to any sport, but especially swimming.

Ample changing rooms, clean bathrooms, and showers are a staple at every Goldfish Swim School. The showers were probably my kids’ favorite thing aside from the actual lessons! They provide tear-free soap and are open, so the kids “shower” with their swimsuits still on.  We used it as a fun way to wash the kids’ hair clean after lessons and then took full baths once we got home.

The blow-drying station is another favorite of all the kids. Mine always beg to stop by it to dry their hair. I’m totally fine with that because it saves me another step once we get home!

SAFETY

Goldfish Swim School takes safety very seriously.  The swimming pool is glassed in so that parents can always see the kids.  Most importantly, there are always multiple lifeguards circling the pool during lessons.  They are always there to encourage the kids to keep their backs on the wall of the pool while they sit and wait for their turn, and to watch the pool lanes to make sure everyone is accounted for.  Another plus is that the classes have a low student-to-teacher ratio of 4:1. All of these things contribute to safety during lessons!

THE LESSONS

Let’s be real: my review of the lessons is the main reason you’re here.  My kids absolutely loved taking lessons.  Even my super reluctant 3-year-old warmed up after a few lessons and looked forward to our weekly lessons at the pool.

3- and 4-year-olds start off in Junior 1, which is beginner lessons with no parent in the pool.  My 3-year-old has no issue getting in the water, but it took her a while to warm up to actually learn to swim.  The staff was so patient! She went from refusing to get her face wet and holding the instructor in a death grip for the entirety of every lesson, to being an active participant each week.  The most notable thing that they teach even the most beginner students is how to fall in the water, turn around, and kick to find the edge to climb out. This is a major part of pool safety even before the actual swimming starts!  My girl has this part down because her main goal is to get her face out of the water .

She’s gained a ton of confidence in water over the past few months working with the Goldfish team. This was a big deal for her and I am grateful for the patience and persistence of her instructors.

My 5-year-old was actually 4 when we started swim lessons so he also started off in Junior 1, since you have to be 5 to take Glider classes.  He actually passed his Junior 1 test after around 3 lessons, right around his 5^th birthday. Instead of moving to Junior 2, he moved up to a Glider 1 class since he was newly 5.

He has always loved the water and really enjoyed the lessons.  In most of his classes, there were usually only 3 students. I love that since he focuses a lot better in smaller class sizes.  He is one of the kids who the lifeguards can be found gently reminding to sit correctly while he waits for his turn. He has picked back up most of the skills that he learned in 2021 and is growing every day!

My 6-year-old is also in Glider classes and absolutely loves his classmates and teacher.  Last week, he actually asked if he could invite her to dinner at our house – which she and I had a GOOD chuckle about in private.  He is always so sweet and loves making new friends wherever he goes.

He has gained so much confidence in the water and it really shows when we go to the pool as a family and I get to watch his swimming in action. He is currently finishing just a few skills so that he can move up to the next Glider level. He is definitely my most motivated learner out of all of my kids, so I think he benefitted most from the curriculum at Goldfish Swim School!

My boys are also in different classes (unless an instructor is absent and classes need to combine) which is another thing that I love.  Since we homeschool and they do so many things together, I love it when they can have a little extra individuality in their extra-curricular activities.

CONS

No place is 100% perfect and I’m an honest blogger.  There were only a few things that were cons for me, and both are just personal preferences of mine.  We homeschool, and there is a pretty large homeschool community where I live. I would have loved it if there were more options for classes during our homeschool day at the Goldfish Hoover location.  There were plenty of morning options for my preschooler, but not as many for my 5- and 6-year-old boys. They took a makeup class in the morning, but I never was able to find a daytime Glider class with space for them both. Again, super specific to our life and preferences but worth noting in case you homeschool too!  

I also want to mention that there was some teacher turnover during our 2 months of lessons, especially as summer ended and college students went back to school. If teacher consistency is something that is important to you, just keep that in mind. Goldfish Swim School does a really good job of making sure their teachers all stick to the curriculum. So I will say that the lessons were still continuous, and it didn’t feel like “starting over” with a new teacher. I appreciated that.

I definitely give Goldfish Swim School – Hoover an A! The entire experience is top-notch  – from the facilities, to the lessons, to the teachers. We are grateful that our kids get to learn to swim at such an amazing place and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for swim lessons for their children. Last week, I attended the 2022 Disney Dreamer Academy as a media guest of The Walt Disney World Resort. (Click here to see all of my video highlights from the experience.) My takeaways: Dream Bigger and Discover the Possibilities!

I spent 4 days on assignment covering the landmark 15th year of this program. And while I went expecting to experience the Class of 2022 Disney Dreamers get inspired, I ended up leaving with a renewed sense of purpose on my own! Before I share all that we learned, first here is a quick background into the Disney Dreamers Academy.

What is the Disney Dreamers Academy?

The Disney Dreamers Academy is an educational mentorship program created and hosted by Walt Disney World Resort. It seeks to broaden career awareness and create exclusive opportunities for students and teens from underrepresented communities across America.

Each year since its inception in 2008, the Disney Dreamers Academy hand selects 100 outstanding high school students from across the country out of thousands of applicants. Each student (along with their guardian) gets an all-expense paid trip to The Walt Disney World Resort. The team flies them to Orlando and they spend 4 days being directly mentored by the Walt Disney World team and a host of celebrity mentors who are committed to inspiring the next generation.

Meet the 2022 Class of the Disney Dreamers Academy

This year’s class of Dreamers consist of 100 students, representing 26 states and a variety of educational experiences and career goals. In their youth, they are already scientists, entrepreneurs, non-profit owners, and more. And they all have one common goal — they dream BIG!

These students are simply amazing. Meet Mikey, who is the author of the Amazon best selling children’s book “Mikey Learns about Business.” Maya, from North Carolina, is a budding scientist who wants to “be remembered for inspiring future generations to hope.

I also met with a few of the Disney Dreamers from Alabama, and they were both so beautifully poised and intelligent. Ava, from Fairhope, is a champion sailor who plans to study design engineering. And Jaynie, from Helena, currently studies cosmetology and aspires to be a movie director and producer.

The Disney Dreamers Academy Experience

During the 4 day event, the Dreamers engaged in a wide variety of experiences at Walt Disney World.
They worked side-by-side with and hearing inspirational stories from community and
business leaders, Disney cast members, celebrities and other special guests.
Dreamers were taught valuable life tools such as leadership skills, effective communication
techniques and networking strategies.

Next, the Disney team hosts in-depth career workshops in a variety of disciplines aligned with the Dreamers’ goals. These workshops introduce The Dreamers to diverse career paths within business, entertainment and sciences, including career opportunities within The Walt Disney Company.

One of my personal favorite parks of watching this experience was to see the Dreamers create special bonds that will last for a lifetime. At the beginning of the experience, students were split up into five groups. Team Truth, Team Soul, Team Purpose, Team Heart, and Team Pride. Each group was led by a Dreamer alumni and was created to foster community. They even participated in a social media challenge throughout the course of the week. Team Truth came out victorious!

Of course, the Dreamers also had a blast in the parks! They got front-of-the-line access to some of the hottest attractions in the theme parks. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Avatar’s Flight of Passage, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Smuggler’s Run were some of the favorites! And to kick off the week’s festivities, the Dreamers were featured in special parade in Magic Kingdom. It was led by Drum Major Mickey and this year’s celebrity Ambassador Kelly Rowland.

Dream bigger and discover the possibilities!

It is impossible for the students and parents to leave the Disney Dreamers Academy without feeling an overwhelming sense of inspiration. Understandably so, after a week being poured into by mentors, uplifted by Disney Cast Members, and being prayed over by those in attendance. But what I didn’t expect was to leave challenged to go after my own dreams! Somehow the reach of the program managed to extends beyond the 2022 class and impact us all. At the commencement ceremony, I don’t believe there was a dry eye in the room.

As a dreamer in my own right, I felt challenged to examine every area of my life where I’ve been letting my dreams lay stagnant. Life moves so quickly, I often let doubt creep in I feel renewed and ready to continue to push towards all that I know that God has for me. I’m a wife, a mom, a blogger, a teacher, and yes — I will never stop being a dreamer! Thank you, Disney Dreamers Academy for that ever-so-timely reminder!

Osprey Pointe – Lavish, Spacious Accommodations

We travel often, but our accommodations during this trip to Sandestin were some of the nicest we’ve ever experienced. Osprey Pointe is located in the heart of the resort and is its newest luxury addition. We were given a luxury top floor four-bedroom penthouse, that was extravagant from the inside out! The unit was beautifully decorated with a bright, spacious kitchen and living area. We loved that the floor plan was open and allowed us to cook, relax, and play all in the same area. It was the perfect layout for our family!

All of the bedrooms were clean and inviting, but my favorite area of the unit would have to be the master suite! It was appointed with a king bed, and had a seating area, an office space, and a pool-facing balcony just off the bedroom.

And the master bathroom was literally what HGTV dreams were made of! It had a beautifully tiled shower and a soaking tub that was perfect for relaxing after a long day of vacation.

The icing on the cake on the cake was the full washer and dryer located in the unit. If you’ve ever been to the beach without laundry facilities you will understand why this was a HUGE deal. I was able to do laundry throughout the trip and come home from vacation with clean laundry.

The team at Sandestin literally thought of it all when they designed the Osprey Pointe units. That made it the perfect place to stay for our family!

Complimentary Amenities

Sandestin offers a number of amenities and attractions on property!

Sandestin guests receive two complimentary 4-hour bike rentals each day of the stay. Desrick, who works the bike rental shop, was so helpful and gave us a trailer attachment and a baby seat to accommodate our 3 toddlers. We spent a few hours riding around property and taking in the sights of Sandestin.

Guests who book direct through Sandestin also get one-hour free kayak and boogie board rentals.

Combine this with the bike rentals, and you have an awesome way to spend a day of resort fun without ever having to leave the property.

Beautiful Gulf Beaches

Sandestin has a private beach area that is open to resort guests with chair rentals available. You are also free to bring your own chairs, which is what we opted to do. Our unit in Osprey Point was a quick drive across the main drag to get to the beach. There was ample parking and an easy walk down to the beach area.

Our kids LOVE the beach and we enjoyed hanging out in the beautiful blue ocean and white sand that covers the beaches of the Gulf Coast.

There were also banana boats, jet skis, and other watersports available for rent. At Sandestin, you can be as adventurous or as relaxed as you like!

Multiple Pools

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort has multiple pools that are available to guest who book direct. We spent most of our time at the gated Osprey Pointe pool. It was zero-entry and perfect for our littles who are still learning how to swim. There was also a hot tub that we took full advantage of!

Fun fact: our particular unit had 2 balconies that each overlooked the pool. One morning, my husband and son spent a morning at the pool, and I watched them enjoy from the balcony. It doesn’t get more perfect than that!

Dining Options

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is home to 20 restaurants right on resort grounds. We were able to take advantage of our bike rentals to ride to the resort’s Village at Baytowne Wharf. Baytowne Wharf is an entertainment district with abundant dining options, nightlife, and shopping.

Baytowne Wharf is very kid-friendly! Some of the restaurants have playgrounds and play areas where the kiddos can blow off steam while you wait!

In addition to the dining choices at the Village, Sandestin also offers guests a Gulf-front dining experience. The Beach House overlooking the Gulf of Mexico is located on the resort’s Beachside. And on our next trip to Sandestin, my husband and I are already planning to visit Ovide at Hotel Effie. Ovide is a French-influenced, upscale dining experience headed up by James Beard award-winning chef Hugh Acheson.

The restaurants at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort are definitely what foodie trip dreams are made of. Yet another reason we are already planning a repeat trip!

Proximity to Area Attractions

The resort is close to multiple shopping centers, restaurants, and area attractions. We picked up groceries to cook a few meals and have some snacks on hand. We also grabbed ice cream at a local fudge shop that was right next to Sandestin. The shopping centers are close, so we saw a few families driving golf carts from the resort!

And if you want to stay on property and explore all of the different attractions that the resort has to offer, there are complimentary trams that run from the beach to the bay.

To sum it up, our visit to Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort was amazing!

What we loved

• Our condo in Osprey Pointe was incredibly beautiful and so spacious!
• The full kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook as much as we wanted. All we had to add was groceries
• Sandestin resort has restaurants, shopping, and entertainment on site — if you choose, you never have to leave the resort.
• Our unit had a full washer and dryer. All the praise hands for this mama!

What we would do differently next trip

• Try a new section, just for fun! Sandestin has many different accommodations to suit every taste including Beachfront, Beachside, Bayside, and Lakeside.
• We would likely stay a little longer in order to enjoy the many amenities the resort has to offer. We didn’t get a chance to go kayaking or enjoy any watersports, but next trip we will for sure.

There are so many amazing attractions in the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Area. One of our favorite things to do in any city is visit the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. We loved the giraffe encounters and feeding the animals in the petting zoo. But my favorite part was walking through Lemur Island and watching the lemurs and other animals interact with each other in their habitat.

Hey guys, it’s Phillip here! As Krystin’s husband it’s my goal to make her feel especially loved on Mother’s Day. And as a dad, I want to teach my sons how to one day pamper the woman that they love. So together, we created a guide to making a special Mother’s Day Brunch for mom and it was the perfect way to celebrate our special lady. Can’t cook…no problem! This guide will help you create a super simple meal – mom will still love it and it can be on the table in less than 15 minutes!

Shopping for the Meal

Like always, our first step was to head to Walmart to grab goodies to make our Mother’s Day Brunch.  We picked up her favorite Welch’s Sparkling juice for a special beverage. Welch’s Sparkling juice is festive and comes in a premium glass bottle (that twists off!), making it perfect for all special occasions.  She likes the Welch’s Sparkling juice in the Red Grape flavor.

And have you ever met a person that loved oatmeal raisin cookies more than chocolate chip? If not, then meet my wife. That love carries over to breakfast so we made sure to grab Thomas’ Cinnamon Raisin bagels, which are made of juicy raisins and sweet cinnamon swirl together in a bagel that’s just as good for dessert as it is for breakfast!

Cream cheese on bagel or jam on bagel: which person are you?  Well, Krystin loves both! So I snagged Welch’s Natural Strawberry Spread and whipped cream cheese for spreading.  In the produce department I grabbed fresh fruit and, per my carnivore son’s request, we had to grab some breakfast meat to complete the meal.  But for my fellas who can’t cook, remember that I have your back.  Precooked sausage links will be your best friend.  A few minutes in the microwave, and tada…you are a chef now! 

Preparing the Meal

One thing that I’ve learned as a blogger husband is that the presentation is everything. So as we prepared to serve Brunch we ditched our usual paper plates for real dishes, used a real glass instead of a regular cup, and grabbed one of the marble trays that Krystin uses when she is feeling fancy. If you want to make things look extra nice try this too, since this is a special occasion. So for our special Mother’s Day Brunch, it’s the least we can do!

PS: If you use real dishes, make sure you wash them too.  If not, your wife may not be as happy…just ask me how I know!

We heated the sausage in the microwave, washed and cut the fresh fruit, and lightly toasted the Thomas’ Cinnamon Raisin bagels. And now the meal is ready to plate! We dished the Welch’s Natural Strawberry Spread into a bowl and made it easy for Krystin to add as much as she would like to her bagels. Thomas’ Cinnamon Raisin Bagels are amazing eaten plain, but having toppings for spreading is a nice touch for a special occasion.

And we didn’t forget the Welch’s Sparkling Juice.  We made a quick sugar rimmed glass for serving, because even the smallest details can make the biggest impression. And of course, my little helper gets to have a small cup to make sure it tastes just right for mom!

When you have two kids under 2 years old, there are definitely shopping tips that will help make your life easier. My youngest kids are 1, 2, and 4 years old. Choose a kid-friendly grocery store

I prefer to do my grocery shopping without my crew of small kids, but if I have to shop with them I prefer to visit a kid-friendly store. I love shopping at Publix because it was designed with moms in mind!

My kids love the shopping carts designed like race cars. They love saying hello to the sweet employees that staff our local Publix. But nothing is more fun to them than grabbing a cookie from the bakery. Yes, kids get a free cookie from the Publix bakery every shopping trip! We head to grab cookies and I can quickly zip through the store to grab my items and be almost finished by the time the cookies are done! Happy kids equal happy mom which equals easy shopping!

Shop Publix sales for baby items

I am constantly looking for great deals on baby items. Publix always has amazing sales for moms who need baby and toddler products. The Baby Care Sale at Publix is starting now so you can find savings on select baby products from April 10 through April 23! You can find details of the available deals in the 4/10 Extra Savings flyer which will include the “Baby Care Sale” offers, usually located in the kiosk at the store’s entrance. If you can’t find it there, ask the customer service desk for a flyer.

Diapers are a huge expense…SAVE where you can!

When you have two kids under 2, diapers can be a huge part of your monthly budget. The Baby Care Sale at Publix offers great deals on Huggies diapers! During the sale, you get $2 off any 1 Huggies Diaper 16–124-ct. It’s an awesome way to stock up on diapers at a great price.

One of my favorite tips is to buy big packs of diapers versus small. Larger counts are often cheaper per diaper than smaller packs. This tip is especially helpful if your kids are similar sized and can wear the same size!

Stock up on convenient, portable meals and snacks

When you have two kids under 2, it helps to have convenient meals and snacks that are easy to grab and go. I love cooking from scratch for my family, but sometimes quick options are awesome sanity saver!

Gerber Snacks and Lil’ Entrees are always a fun surprise for the kids. When they are part of the deals in the Extra Savings flyer during the Baby Care Sale, I like to grab a couple of them to keep in my pantry for a quick lunch or to toss in my diaper bag. When most people think about Gulf Shores and Orange Beach their minds immediately go to the enchanting sugar-white sand and the expansive ocean views.  But many are often surprised to find that the Alabama Beaches are also home to award-winning culinary destinations where the food often surpasses the waterfront views!  Here are some of my favorite Gulf Shores and Orange Beach restaurants where you can feast both your eyes and your stomach on your next vacation to Alabama’s Beaches.

Fisher’s at Orange Beach Marina

Fisher’s houses 2 restaurants under one roof, with 2 distinct experiences and vibes, but both having the common thread of incredible cuisine.  

White-linen tablecloths, fine wines, and an elevated menu are what await diners who opt for fine dining at Fisher’s Upstairs.   Fisher’s Upstairs has elegant open-air terraces where guests enjoy vast wine and cocktail selections, delicious food and the fresh air and waterfront views of Orange Beach Marina.

Dockside is the more casual, family-friendly of the two, creating a comforting outdoor dining experience with waterfront views overlooking the boat slip at the marina that’s home to over 100 yachts!  The menu focuses on using bounty from local Alabama Gulf waters and consists of fresh seafood, hand-ground burgers, crisp salads and more. Note: Dockside is temporarily closed but reopening is scheduled for early May 2021!

The Gulf

The Gulf is a uniquely designed restaurant destination & event venue, serving locally inspired food and beverages in a beautiful waterfront setting. Located on the sand in Orange Beach, this seaside escape boasts a revolving menu that changes with the seasons to give you the freshest local choices the seas have to offer. 

And the fun doesn’t stop at night: firepits, beach, games and live music can all be found all day long at the Gulf.  Food, fun with side of a gorgeous waterfront view…what more could you ask for?

GT’s on the Bay

There’s a reason that “GT” stands for “Good Times!” GT’s on the Bay is one of our family’s favorite restaurants, serving up a scenic setting overlooking the Wolf Bay waterfront with incredible food! And for families with kids, this restaurant is a must-visit! The back-patio dining area has an expansive pirate ship playground that even the littlest beachcombers can enjoy while waiting for dinner. 

The menus are just as cool as the atmosphere! From their Happy Hour menu with specials on drinks and not-so-small plates, to the local seafood and steak options that tantalize the taste buds every single visit, GT’s is a favorite amongst both tourists and locals!

Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s 

LuLu’s is arguably one of the most fun destinations in Gulf Shores for a meal and is all about celebrating food, family, and fun. There are places all around the restaurant for kids (and adults) to play, and you can’t beat the stunning waterfront views! And the food is so tasty! LuLu’s is also very accommodating with food allergies, so be sure to check out their allergy menus!

And who can say it better than the restaurant itself: “A visit to LuLu’s is a vacation in itself, so treat yourself and your family. The real world can wait.”

Cobalt

Contemporary coastal cuisine, authentic dishes and spectacular view – Cobalt is another local favorite in Orange Beach: It boasts waterfront dining, live music and superior service. Nestled under the Perdido Bay Bridge, next to Caribe Resort, patrons can enjoy a spectacular view of the bay from every table. And if you happen to have a yacht just hanging around your backyard, you can even approach by water!

Your server is likely to recommend you start with the BBQ Gulf Shrimp or a Crab and Shrimp dip…I’ll take both please!  Their many specialty entrees are a sure hit and won’t disappoint.  And I’ve never made a dessert menu that I didn’t love – fried apple pie, chocolate cake, bread pudding and more are going to be the chef’s kiss on a meal at Cobalt.

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are just as much waterfront dining destinations as they are for the beach! I hope that you allow these restaurants to inspire both your eyes and palate on your next trip to the white-sand beaches of Alabama.
